Lived this. Hated it. Last job I was the oldest person in the office by over a decade for most of the time I was there. Being able to remember “the little things” (you know…like when a meeting was…) meant that everyone looked to me to remember their things too. Being able to relate to just about every job at the company meant I was the one people came to with problems.

I was respected by most of the company for my skills as a tester, trainer, and support person (sometimes all at the same time…) On the other hand, my data skills were looked at as: “Kathy’s really great at Excel and she’ll answer any question you have about it.”

One of the good things about being medically retired? I don’t have to deal with this attitude any longer. I just have to watch as other women have to deal with this attitude and the limits it places on them.
