People Won’t Covet Your Comfort
More excuses will never build a better life.
It never fails, your alarm goes off, you hit the snooze, roll over, and repeat the process. Right from our waking moments, our comfort is desperately trying to claim a spot at the center of our world. We have become victims of our own comfort, and find ourselves building lives based on feeling.
Comfort never got anyone anywhere. The seen aspect of every successful life was built on countless hours of unseen sacrifice, effort, and perseverance. We covet others’ skills, careers, relationships, and bodies, wishing we were fortunate enough to be in their position. To ease our own minds, we assume our heroes just magically arrived where they are without any hurdles along the way. But if we had the courage to sneak behind the curtains of “successful” individuals we would be shocked. They had to work, and it wasn’t easy.
Take the jump
Stop making excuses. Remember the things you have been telling yourself: “I’m too old, I’m too young, I don’t have time, I can’t, it’s too hard…” They are all lies. Excuses, even the good ones, won’t do anything but keep you where you are.
You’re too old. Colonel Sanders started the fast food chain Kentucky Fried Chicken at the age of 65. Your excuse is weak.
You’re too Young. Mark Zuckerberg was 21 years old when he started Facebook, Steve Jobs was 21 with Apple, Bill Gates was only 20 when he started Microsoft. Your excuse… it’s a sad one.
You don’t have time. You mean you can’t wake up an hour early or stay up late to persue your dreams? You can’t replace any time currently spent watching TV or scrolling through facebook? There is absolutely no wasted time in your day? If your dreams aren’t worth waking up early for, then how much do you really want them?
You can’t. Really? You don’t have the education or resources? If you are reading this right now you have internet access, you have endless free information, education, and resources right in front of you. You can, it’s just scary and uncomfortable.
It’s too hard. It’s not going to be easy. Things that are comfortable and easy are never coveted. Great relationships take work and can be difficult, but when worked on, they become beautiful and valuable. A healthy body or six pack doesn’t just happen. Time at the gym can be hell, and a strict diet pushes your self control, I mean who doesn’t like chocolate? Good things in life take sacrifice, there is no pill, get rich scheme, or book that will change that. Roll up your sleeves and get to work.
I challenge you to identify those excuses that are holding you back from your dreams, and throw them in the trash. Stop being a victim of your comfort, make sacrifices, dream big, and stop selling yourself short. The world is waiting for you. You are capable of more than you have ever dreamed. Start building the life you want. Go!
