CALL-TO-ACTION — November 21, 2016

Representative Katherine Clark a Democrat from Massachusetts introduced a bill a last week that calls for the President and Vice Preseident to resolve all conflicts of interest before taking office. This bill needs our support. Call your Congresspeople (Republican and Democrat) and demand they support Rep. Clark’s bill.

Here’s where to find your reps:

Current law prohibits federal office holders from engaging in government business when they stand to gain profit. The President and Vice President are currently exempt from this statute. Clark’s Presidential Accountability Act removes this exemption and requires the President and Vice President to place their assets in a certified blind trust or disclose to the Office of Government Ethics and the public when they make a decision that affects their personal finances.

At present, President-Elect Trump has been holding meetings with foreign leaders while members of his family are present. He has been conducting business meetings regarding the Trump name with foreign business partners, and promoting his new hotel (a half mile from the White House) as a place for foreign diplomats/leaders to stay when they’re in town to meet with him. He stands to profit in a huge way if he continues pay-to-play and to blur the lines of the Presidency of the United States with his own business interests.

Call your Reps today!

Sample Script:

After identifying yourself, tell the aide you would like to leave a brief message, such as: “Please tell Representative (Name) that I support/oppose (bill name) and I urge him/her to support this bill too.”

You will also want to state reasons for your support or opposition to the bill. You may also request a written response to your telephone call.

Please call the House Oversight Committee to support the call for a bipartisan review of Trump’s financials and apparent conflicts of interest. They’re tallying calls — the more they get, the more likely the Committee is to demand all of Trump’s financial information. If you get a ‘mailbox is full’ message, call back in a minute or so — that seems to be the default when lines are busy.”

NSA Chief, Mike Rogers, says that Russia hacked our election systems ON ELECTION DAY. Congress must act.

So far, the only Capitol Hill legislator who has publicly called for such an endeavor is Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.). On Tuesday, Graham, who was harshly critical of Trump during the campaign, proposed that Congress hold hearings on “Russia’s misadventures throughout the world,” including the DNC hack. “Were they involved in cyberattacks that had a political component to it in our elections?” Graham said. He pushed Congress to find out.

So there’s three things you can do: 1) Call the House Oversight Committee (see above #2) and add this to your request that the HOC demand all of Trump’s Financials. 2) Call your reps and urge them to back Senator Graham’s request that the HOC investigate 3) Call Rep. Jason Chaffetz, the Chairman of the HOC, and urge him to investigate with the same vigor he chose to investigate Hillary Clinton.

Is your Governor not taking a stand against hateful rhetoric or the appointments of Steve Bannon, Mike Flynn, and Jeff Sessions? Call them and demand they denounce hate AND these appointments.

A simple search of your Governor’s name will give you their website and all of their office numbers.

Paul Ryan is conducting a phone poll on the ACA (Obamacare), hoping to hear overwhelming popular opposition to it.
If you would like to express your support for the Affordable Care Act, please call (202) 225–0600.

Press 2 to weigh in on the issue. You’ll hear a brief (and biased) recording about HR-3762, Paul Ryan’s proposal to gut the ACA, and President Obama’s use of his veto power to stop it. Then, you will have a chance to indicate your opinion with the press of a button.

Press 1 if you support Obamacare, 2 if you oppose it. His voicemail was full when I called yesterday.

There may be a long silence before you’ll hear a recorded voice giving you options. Also you may have to try a few times before getting through.

Let’s continue to flood our politicians’ phone lines with our opinions.

One thing I think we forget is to thank the people who are out their fighting the good fight on our behalf. If one of your reps or your Governor, Mayor, Attorney General is out their speaking out against this dangerous man and his dangerous laws/appointees, call their office and say thank you and urge them to keep working hard for you. They need all the support they can get. Coffee, donuts, and flowers are nice too, if you can swing it.

FUN FACT: Hillary Clinton is winning the popular vote by 1.7 million votes. If you feel so inclined, sign this petition and ask the Electoral College to vote for the right person on December 19.
