Or propel it back into the light?
Electronic Arts. Probably the best known game developers ever. But for a bad reason. Infamously, EA has produced triple A rated, of which are extremely average, whilst, most noticeably, with the greatly feared ‘micro-transactions’. Anthem is a key example of a game that EA has produced, which though looked stunning at E3 2016–18, looked less than average and received poor reviews after its late February release. …
Or is it already too late?
Avengers Endgame was the climax to one of the most popular franchises of today. So far, the three hour long epic to end first three phases of the MCU, has earned itself $2.75 billion worldwide. And after two months of its release it hasn’t yet dethroned Avatar, which since its release in 2009 has made upwards of $2.79 billion. So there close, very close. With cinema’s and movie theaters mostly no longer screening Endgame, it seemed like Avatar would be able to defend its title as the highest grossing film ever. …
But also, potentially the start of the end.
Through the course of Avengers Endgame, we saw multiple time periods being revisited by our many heroes, and at the end of the three hour epic Captain America was seen returning the stones to there assorted time periods as well as presumably Thor's Hammer, Mjölnir. This opened up a whole new possibility of a multiverse in the MCU; with multiple affected timelines like Loki taking the space stone and how Captain America regained his shield, leaving an alternate Steve Rogers without his Vibranium Frisbee.
With Spiderman being the first film to deal with the events of Tony’s snap, and Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury stating, “the snap tore a hole in out dimension”, it hugely expanded the possibility of the Universe, with now the ability to watch Loki on screen again, which is likely to be the timeline the new Loki series is to be set in. But will this open up and widen the MCU audience, or will it cause it to decline now the much anticipated Avengers Endgame is over? …
Marvel should really just stick to the Big Screen.
E3 2019, the biggest gaming event of the year, showed of many up and coming titles — noticeably Halo infinite, Dying Light 2, and of course Keanu Reeves’ awe striking Cyberpunk 2077 conference. Despite the excitement for the new superhero game, partly coming from Marvels’ successful Spiderman game, Marvel's Avengers reveal was nothing but disappointing. …
No Man Sky's third anniversary update in on its eve of release. No Man's Sky Beyond is the 4th of the games ‘large’ expansions, and likely the most anticipated. The additions of VR support, ‘No Man's Sky Online’ and a yet to be disclosed third part of the update. Both VR support and ‘No Man's Sky Online’ sounds extremely promising, though the third part of the update has players scratching their heads in what it could be; considering Hello Games has left a three month gap in between announcing the first two components, either the third component will be somehow more incredible than the first two updates, or they’re having difficulty in developing it. …
Its nothing new, and it isn’t that old; Battle Royale has been dominating the Market thanks to PUBG and now Fortnite, bringing in Millions of dollars a month, alongside millions of players. Although, due to their extreme popularity, it’s no surprise that other games are trying to imitate there success by innovating (or copying) there own versions of the mode. Call of Duty and Battlefield are, unsurprisingly, trying to integrate this mode into there games. Recently interest has been declining with these two games, Call of Duty WW2 did basically terribly, while Battlefield 1 is slowly losing players; it seems like the traditional 1st person shooters are going extinct, so both EA and Activition are attempting to revive there series’ with Battle Royale. Similarly, Dying Light is making a similar move to put some life back into there 2015 game, with ‘Bad Blood’ before the release of there long awaited sequel. There are plenty of other ‘smaller’ games implementing this idea as well, but there can only be one winner, winner chicken dinner. …
Fortnite yet again, has released another update. It’s a limited time mode and it isn’t 50 vs 50. Somehow, Epic Games has come up with something even more original than normal, that isn’t simply aiming a shotgun at another player and hoping it does more than 7 damage, and actually requires different tactics. This game mode was a surprise, as Fortnite is now beginning to bend the laws of battle royale, changing it to become more strategic, similar to objective based game modes, like ‘Cargo’ from Star Wars: Battlefront (2015)… but there’s 100, rather than 16 players. Now this sounds like fun, but sometimes games can dilute objective based game modes in the more basic mechanic. …
Last Week the Battlefield V beta dropped and needless to say, it was riddled with bugs, glitches and was probably one of the worst beta’s the infamous EA has ever released. No wonder the game was delayed by a month. Battlefield 1 was a great game, it greatly shadowed that of Call of Duty infinite warfare and even the more recent Call of Duty: World War 2. You can tell that Dice liked it, as the Battlefield V beta pretty much just is Battlefield 1, but reskinned in WW2. It honestly just feels like a DLC pulled out of the trash. …
Fortnite and Black Ops. I Never thought I'd use those two words in a sentence. Two completely opposite games; a Cartoon, Online Survival game and an ultra realistic FPS, completely different shooters on opposite sides of the Spectrum, will collide through battle royale. It was Fortnite first, adopting there own version of the Battle Royale Genre, back in September of 2017, and now Call of Duty are implementing there own version of the game mode “Blackout”. …
Superhero games are nothing new; there’s hundreds of web swinging, batarang throwing, Lego building titles dedicated to certain heroes, most notably Batman, from the Arkham night series (which was a great series). Though in the last two years their hasn’t been many stand out hero titles despite the huge boost in popularity from the movie industry (you probably already know which series — but which is the best?), so a new Spider-Man is a great refresher and will hopefully launch a new wave of great superhero games. …
