Welcome to Leo season

July 23rd- August 22nd

Leo is symbolized by the Lion — the king of the jungle and the master of the universe. Leos are strong, courageous, determined and exude power and authority. Being one of the four fixed signs and a fire sign, Leos can stand for “ Warm, action-oriented individuals that are driven by the desire to be loved and admired”. As we enter Leo season the themes that present themselves are personal creativity, passion, individualism, joy and fun!

Having just come out of a fairly emotional dip into the depths of Cancerian waters, we come into this month ready for some fun, passion and good times! It’s not that we don’t have good times in Cancer season — we do — it’s that we have a focus on family, protectionism, security, shoring up the defenses, buying new household appliances, and attending to our castles.

Leo, however, doesn’t just want to shore up the castle and attend to the practicalities — of which they have great talent — they want to throw parties, and delight in company that will applaud and admire their magnificent and generous personalities.

The sign of Leo is ruled by the ruler of the sky — the sun. The sun is at home in Leo as it can shine down and bring strength and passion to us all. In the next few weeks be prepared for party invitations, tickets to some incredible gigs and events, with some extravagant adventures and escapades.

This is what I love about Leo season and Leo people — the ability to lift the spirits of those around them and bring joy to our lives. I can always count on Leo people to brighten up my day. I might be mulling over the sorry state of the world when a Leo friend will get me out of my own head and proclaim, “Enough of that, time to go out on the town and have a laugh!”. Leo people are masters of uplifting people with positive energy when they are in the right frame of mind. They can turn a sour day into the most extraordinary night.

It is not often you find a quiet Leo. But they do exist. Even if you come across a quiet Leo child or adult, they will have an air of assurance about them — an almost “regal” quality to their pose and demeanor. You could almost call this a self-confident swagger. They are not intimidated by anyone. On the contrary, those in their presence are more likely to be seduced by their powerful aura — taken in by their magnetic personalities.

Leo people are loving people to those around them being “generous with both their fortunes and affection”. They are courageous souls who will defend family and friends with a fierce protective fire, regardless of whether the friend or family member was in the right or wrong.

Leos make incredible allies for great causes and enterprises. They make great entrepreneurs, creating businesses that beat the competition, using their limitless energy for self-promotion. They will not stop until they have reached their goal, because failure is not an option for our prideful friends. Failure is not something Leos accept, nor is it a word in their vocabulary.

As with every sign there are “shadow characteristics” — that I will discuss for each sun sign — that befall our brave lion heroes.

One such shadow characteristic comes in the form of excessive pride. Nothing wounds a Leo more than a room full of admirers leaving their stage and taking their applause and adulation with them. Leos are by default: ego-centric. A Leo without an audience is an unhappy one. They have so much talent and love to give that they cannot stand rejection of any form, whether that be from friends, lovers or co-workers. Excessive pride can be the downfall of these magnificent creatures. If you think of the story of the Lion with the thorn it it’s paw, it pretty much sums up what a lack of admiration means to our prideful friends.

A lack of love is the thorn in the Lion’s paw and it can bring down the king of the jungle.

Another shadow characteristic that can be the downfall for our Leo kings and queens, is arrogance. Leos are loving people but they are by nature self-centered. Just as a lack of admiration can bring down a Leo, the excess of applause can lead to an inflated-ego so enormous they won’t be able to fit their head through the door. Too much applause can lead to an all out tyrannical reign. Just think about the Danish tale of The Emperor’s New Clothes. Leos can be so blinded by their own ‘superiority’ that they can turn both “deaf, dumb and blind at the same time” and knock our kings and queens from the height of regal authority down to the pits with — dare I say it — mere mortals.

Having said all this, Leos are remarkably resilient and can make some incredible comebacks. Just when you think our Leo friend or family member is in the deepest of black holes, they rise from the ashes like a phoenix from the furors of the fiercest fire.

Predictions for the month

As I will mention in every article, sun signs are only a very small part of our unique charts that can help us understand ourselves and those around us. Those people born on the cusp of Leo, are likely to combine characteristics from the sign previous or following. Those born July 22/23rd will take some qualities of both signs, with this Leo being a bit more of a sensitive Leo with Cancerian traits and those following August 22/23rd will likely take some Virgo practicality and nitpicking qualities.

As the sun shines into Leo season we’ll be taking on the qualities of Leo through the month. This will include parties with friends, events, music, laughter, excessiveness, individuality, and finding our passions. This month is about the self and self-expression.

Be who you were meant to be!

On the “shadow” side of things we may find arrogance creep up from time to time. Compromise isn’t a strong theme in the Leo playbook, so we won’t be finding much political or social consensus right now. Remember, Leo is ALWAYS right, so this isn’t a great time for taking on the feelings of others in a collective sense.

However, this month we may find more energy in the fire of Leo with heightened spirits. We might find more courage this month to speak up for ourselves and for our wants and needs. Leo season doesn’t want us to shy away, it wants us to be bold, proud and relentless in pursuit of our goals.

Go out and take on the world!

Just drink plenty of water…
