Legazpi City, located in Albay Philippines, is one of the major cities in the Bicol region. Known primarily for its world famous nearly perfect-coned Volcano, Mt. Mayon, Legazpi is a city of many beautiful sights and delicious cuisine. The question though is, should one consider moving in permanently and residing in it?

Here are 5 reasons why it’s probably a good idea.

The beautiful Caribbeans? No, it’s Legazpi City!

1.Green living

Living in the province usually means living near nature, and Legazpi is no exception. With many wide green areas, Nature Parks, and one of the longest uninterrupted coastline boulevards, expect fresh air, picture perfect moments, and a closer connection to the great outdoors!

Here are a few great places for you to consider!

  • Legazpi Boulevard
  • Albay Park and Wild Life
  • Ligñon Hill
There’s a lot to do in Legazpi. Ever tried zip lining with Mayon?

2.Low cost of living

Another benefit of living in Legazpi is that the cost of living is very easy on the pocket. Meals can be as low as 35 pesos in the local carinderias, while your 100 pesos can get you a filling meal at the local restaurants. Local fare is only 7 pesos at minimum and taxi fare can be as low as 37 pesos.

3.Good governance

Legazpi benefits from great policies and effective public officials. Legazpi has been heralded by APEC as the second most livable city (second only to Iloilo) and despite being hit by strong typhoons, damage to property and lives are kept at a low rate- thanks to the extensive drainage system and water pumping stations. The city is second to none when it comes to disaster risk reduction being chosen by the UN as its model when it comes to DRRM as well as by Harvard to conduct its disaster risk reduction study on it.

Ibalong Festival, the biggest festival of Legazpi.

4.Tourism

When in Legazpi, you’ll never run out of things to do! You can choose from dozens of fresh spring resorts to its unique black sand beaches to plan your family vacation. For those with a more adventurous side, you can try ATV riding near the Cagsawa ruins or zip lining from Ligñon hill. There’s also the famous Ibalong Festival with its parade of Heroes and Monsters from the Ibalong epic, and the Magayon Festival which offers local businesses a chance to showcase their products. Tourism will surely benefit from the soon to open International Airport in Daraga, and there are already talks of adding an International cruise terminal in Legazpi.

Embarcadero De Legazpi, the first waterfront Mall in Legazpi City!

5.Business

Legazpi has experienced a business boom in the recent years. From the entry of BPOs like Sutherland to the construction of the first seaside mall Embarcadero, and partnership between LCC and Ayala to deliver the largest mall in the City. These offer thousands of job opportunities to Legazpeños and tremendous opportunities for franchising and business expansion. Not to mention the opening of the Gregorian mall, the first shopping complex to feature a museum and the ground breaking of the soon-to-be-largest mall in the Bicol region, SM Legazpi.
