You know who else was good five years ago and is unemployed now? RG3. Is anybody screaming he should have a job? No. Because he has conclusively proven that he’s not very good. Same with Kaepernick. He had success running a high school style offense which he refused to continue doing for fear of injuring himself, completely exposing his inability to be an effective pocket passer. These are not opinions, they’re facts on film. So if you’re going to have a backup quarterback who’s not very good, why would you want a more expensive guy who is also guaranteed to bring a media circus with him? This is not rocket science. The NFL has repeatedly proven, beyond doubt, that talent trumps all. Greg Hardy, Tyreke Hill, Adrian Peterson, etc. If Kaepernick could play, he’d have a job. End of story.
