New Editions
Old Cameron Kids favorites made new
This week we released new variations of two of our favorite and bestselling Cameron Kids titles. The first is our very first Spanish-language title, a translation of our picture book with Giants in-game reporter (and fellow Petaluman) Amy G: Smarty Marty’s Got Game. The second is the board book edition of I Carry Your Heart With Me, our children’s adaptation of E. E. Cummings’s beloved poem, illustrated by Oakland artist Mati McDonough. Though the stories may be familiar to Cameron Kids readers, these new editions offer a whole new way to experience them.
Released in 2013, Smarty Marty’s Got Game follows Marty (who now has her own chapter book as well, Smarty Marty Steps Up Her Game) as she teaches her love of baseball to her younger brother, Mikey. As a reporter for the Giants, Amy shared that many of the Spanish-speaking players expressed the desire to see her books translated into their native language. We agreed, and thus, Smarty Marty’s Got Game: ¡En Español! was born.
In 2014 we released I Carry Your Heart With Me as a hardcover picture book, with the whimsical illustrations of Mati McDonough depicting the love between a mother and daughter. The book was deemed the perfect baby shower gift by moms and children’s book bloggers, but the format didn’t necessarily welcome babies and toddlers to physically interact with the story. Now, the board book release invites little fingers to turn the sturdy pages without fear of tearing them.
As children’s book publishers, one of our goals is to put books in the hands of as many kids as we can. A way to accomplish this goal is to expand our reach and create stories for audiences of not only multiple ages, but also different backgrounds. We’ve been diversifying our list, such as publishing our first chapter book this April, and we will continue to seek new and interesting ways to tell stories, even if that means we retell an “old” one in a new way from time to time.
