7 Household remedies to clean the carpet stains
Carpet stains can damage your carpet. Among all other forms of carpet damaging factors, stains are the most common ones! When there are pets in your family or little children, such stains are very natural. No matter how careful you are, avoiding stains seems difficult. They not only hamper the look of the carpet but also add ugly odour which becomes intolerable at times. You can’t leave them to dry on their own. Here are some easy tips to erase the stains that you can try at home.
If you discover tea or coffee stains on your carpet, get hold of some beer and pour it right on top of the stain. Rub it gently and then slowly into the material. The stain should go away. You may have to repeat the process more than once for better results.
To remove stains from carpet or upholstery, make a solution by using one cup clear ammonia in two litres warm water and sponge the carpet. After the process is done, let it dry thoroughly and repeat the process, if required.
Vinegar is the most important stain removing item. You may use it in the following ways:
- Light carpet stains can be removed by using a mixture of 2 tablespoons salt dissolved in ½ cup white vinegar. Let it dry before you vacuum.
- For deeper or darker stains, use 2 tablespoons borax to the mixture made earlier and use it in a similar fashion.
- If you find spilled paint on your carpet, use a solution of 1½ teaspoon vinegar, 1½ teaspoon laundry detergent and two cups water to sponge away the paint and rinse with cold water.
- In case of fruit juice stains, use 1 tablespoon laundry detergent with 1½ tablespoon white vinegar combined with two cups of water. Now use the mixture to blot the stain.
4. Shaving Cream
Shaving cream can sometimes just cause miracle! Pour some shaving cream on the spot, blot the stain and pat it with a wet sponge. Work the cream into the stain, let it dry and rub it off with a damp cloth. Shaving cream works best to remove grease and oil stains.
Has the little one poured ink on the carpet? Don’t worry! Check if you have split milk in your kitchen. You have to mix the milk with cornstarch to prepare a paste. Apply it on the stained area and after it has dried, brush off the dried residue and vacuum it up!
Don’t panic if your guests have spilled red wine on your white carpet. If you see that it is a fresh stain, that is, if the red wine is still wet, pour some white wine over it to dilute the colour. Now clean the area with a sponge and cold water. Sprinkle the spot with salt and wait for about ten minutes. It’s time to vacuum up the whole mess. This also works good in case of ketchup spills or greasy food stains.
6. Baking soda
To get rid of vomit or urine stains from your carpet, baking soda is the best thing. Wipe out as much as you can and then put some baking soda over the affected area and pat with a paper towel. After it dries up completely, vacuum the residue. Baking soda not only cleans but also deodorizes the messy spot.
