How to make friends in college.
The most important thing to keep in mind when it comes to making friends in college is being open. If you are staying in a dorm, leave your door open, that way people know you are open to talk or hang out. If you sit in your dorm on your bed with your door closed, the chance of making friends will decrease drastically.
If you have roommates, start with them. These are the people with whom you will probably be around the most. Invite them to go do something fun. If you are not normally the ‘planner’ in your group of friends, you might need to be now.

Hand in hand with your roommates are your neighbors. You want to meet them right away. One fun thing to do might be to make cookies with your roommates, then bring them to your neighbors. Then you hit two birds with one stone: hanging out with your roomies, and meeting your neighbors.

If you don’t click with your roommates, don’t feel too bad, there are still a lot of other people on campus who don’t click with their roommates either. The next place I recommend is class. Find people you like in your classes and start study groups, or if there are already study groups, join one. You already have something in common with everyone in your classes, so it makes it a little bit easier to start up conversations with them.
An obvious solution to finding friends is joining clubs or sports teams. Intramural sports are a great way to meet new people. Not only will you be making friends, but you will be getting a healthy dose of exercise when you practice or have games.

Last of all, take electives. College is time when you will be pretty busy, and maybe a little too focused on your hard classes. If you don’t think you have time to take an elective, maybe you should rethink your schedule and save one of your harder classes for next semester. Electives such as dance classes, guitar classes, or even out door living classes are great ways to refresh your brain after attending a difficult hour of chemistry or calculus. You are sure to make friends in any elective, while at the same time learning a cool new skill.

Just remember, you need to be open to making new friends, because most likely people will not just come flooding to you asking to be your friend. If you are bored, don’t pull out Netflix, instead, go find a service club and join it. Try out different friend groups and discover the people you like to be around.
College is tough, but friends make it fun, so go and make a friend.
