This is gutwrenching, more than heartbreaking and disturbing…yet the neglect and denied service continue. I fear many more will take their own lives. A close friend to my son, Phil, falls into that category of hopelessness. A veteran of two tours in Afghanistan, ignored in his pleas for help for two years, was at the brink of suicide. We all kept a vigilant watch, calling, texting, checking on him. One night in despair he begged all of us, peers and loving adults, to help him, to become involved. We did and he’s finally getting the medical help and counseling he so desperately needed. But what about the rest? What about those still in that hopeless state, seeking medical and psychological guidance? What about those on the brink? How do we change things?
