“Homelessness is illegal in my city no one is homeless although there are an increasing number of criminals living on the street. It was smart to turn an abandoned class into a criminal class, sometimes people feel sorry for the down and outs, they never feel sorry for criminals, it has been a great stabilizer.”
Jeanette Winterson, Art and Lies

There is a large wildfire near Chico, over 350,000 acres at last count. 4,000 people have been evacuated from the towns that are in the path of the blaze.

and Chico is handing out 72 hour notices to the homeless population, some of whom are homeless because of the 2018 Camp fire that leveled Paradise CA 15 miles up the road from Chico, to clear out.

There are always a lot of opinions on how people came to be homeless. Most of them are based on the supposition that the homeless are lazy, drug addicted, crazy, alcoholics, or my favorite, they enjoy living outdoors.

What they fail to consider is how close they are to being homeless. It’s a lot closer than they want to acknowledge.

It’s as easy as having your landlord evict you for a real or fabricated reason, which has happened to several friends of mine, who then struggled to find affordable housing in their town.
