The Red Dot Corporation, founded in 1965, produces premium mobile HVAC units and components for the most demanding commercial and military customers around the globe. They provide world-class manufacturing, product development, and engineering all under one roof in Tukwila, WA. Shuyi Chen joined Red Dot through the CAMPS Military to Manufacturing (M2M) program. Shuyi is a great example of the outstanding candidates transitioning out of the military, and their ability to quickly make a strong high-value impact to the manufacturing community.

When most people think of Military to Manufacturing programs they typically think of the soldier, sailor, or airman that is making the transition. However, the CAMPS M2M program is also open to military spouses. Shuyi and her husband made the journey together. They tapped-in to all of the programs offered by their command; including the Army Career and Alumni Program, resume writing services, career placement, and interview preparation. Shuyi was fortunate that her spouse’s chain of command also allowed them to attend the CAMPS Military to Manufacturing course offered at JBLM. The CAMPS M2M program is a condensed industry-driven workshop that expertly prepares veterans for careers in manufacturing. The CAMPS program has developed 140 Skills Translation Models that prepare participants for entry-level, semi-skilled, skilled, and leadership positions in the manufacturing industry.

After successfully completing the the M2M course Shuyi was introduced to Red Dot Corporation at the Hire America’s Heroes Job Fair. Thanks to the CAMPS M2M team, Shuyi and her husband were able to submit their resumes at the top of the stack. The phone call came in and sure enough Shuyi was offered a position at Red Dot. Upon joining, Shuyi undertook a difficult training regimen on the production floor before moving on to the Routing/Lean office of Red Dot. Shuyi’s skills and knowledge in engineering quickly got her noticed by the company. Shuyi was promptly promoted to Manufacturing Engineer, where she currently develops cutting-edge manufacturing processes, computer programs, and heavy machinery. Shuyi works every single day to make the Red Dot production process more efficient for the company and her teammates.

Shuyi is an outstanding example of how CAMPS identifies and invests in top notch talent coming out of the military and connects that talent with local Pacific Northwest manufacturers. We wish Shuyi and Red Dot Corporation many years of success together.

CAMPS has been working with local military installations and veteran programs since 2012. Over 300 individuals attribute their employment success from what they have learned in the CAMPS M2M program.
