Shoe Dog

I recently read the book Shoe Dog by Nike’s creator Phil Knight.

The book tells the story of the most successful athletic apparel company of our time starting from Phil’s childhood in 1962 to Nike’s founding in 1964 and its IPO in 1980. It also includes an epilogue where Phil shares some of his more recent experiences with Nike and his learnings from reflecting back on it all.

What makes Shoe Dog unique isn’t the facts of Phil’s journey. Although these are important, it’s his spirit and the raw emotions he conveys that make the book unique. It’s Phil’s hopes, fears, drive, self-doubt, anger, and gratitude, and his open communication of these feelings, that make his journey accessible to his readers.

Whatever your Nike may be, Shoe Dog makes you believe that you can do it too.
