When I saw the title I was expecting another “faux problem” that has been making headlines across the internet, but thankfully this was a great post that pointed to some of the real issues with this game. I’ve played it a bit more and the “communal” experience with my friends motivating each other helps a little, but I’m starting to feel the same way as you.
At the end of the day, there is not a whole to this game and after a few days of nostalgia from catching those original Pokemon again, it becomes a chore to acquire the items to catch the Pokemon and visit the same locations, re-treading the same ground as you grind for higher levels and stronger Pokemon. Even for people who are interested in the turf war for gyms, it feels a little hopeless as we’re only a couple weeks into the game and the local gyms are already vastly overpowered for any of mine (level 15).
The game doesn’t need to change for me, but there’s not a whole lot left for me to enjoy now that the novelty of “playing Pokemon again” has worn off.
