I used to hang out with a Vietnam vet in Colorado who was a bow hunter. He would head into the woods alone for a month every fall, meeting a friend at a trailhead every week for supplies. He shot a compound bow and got a deer most years. He liked the hunt, but he liked being alone in the woods even more. He used to say that month helped him survive the stress and strain of the other 11. Luckily he had a seasonal job.
