The 3 Musketeers are ready for action
Ishaaq, Kees and Abrie are our newest additions to the team. Following is a short introduction of each of the new members.
Ishaaq is from Durban, and schooled in Pietermaritzburg. He studied an undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering and graduated in 2018, and thereafter began his masters degree in Artificial Intelligence with a focus on Natural Language Processing, both at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN). He has just started on an NLP project together with Dean and Suzana. The project is very similar to his masters project, and he is currently writing a paper on some of these techniques. In his free time, he likes to run and surf, and has recently began kickboxing.
Kees was born and raised in the western part of the Netherlands, where he has pursued degrees with specialisations in the fields of applied physics, computer science and biology. There, he has obtained knowledge on how to tackle technical problems. In his free time, through bootcamps, online courses and the occasional side job, he has made himself comfortable with having computers solve the computational parts of such problems. His personal goal is to see the solutions to problems be implemented for the good of the environment and/or society. He will now take on a one-time job for Cape Town AI, where he will look at the data obtained by a smart logistics company that specialises in parcel delivery. The goal is to see where improvement in their customers services and overall logistics can be found.
Originally from Brits, North West, Abrie Cronje completed his BSc (Hons) in physics at the University of Pretoria and is currently in the final stages of his MSc in physics. During his research he found that the root of his passion for physics lies in concept understanding and problem solving, and which better way to explore this passion than with Data Science?
He has 4+ years of experience with Python through research as well as online courses such as the “Introduction to Python”, “Introduction to Data Science in Python” and “Introduction to Machine Learning” courses on Coursera (among others). Abrie is excited to start working at Cape Town AI in September 2019 and to apply his scientific way of thinking to industry problems, pursuing creative machine learning solutions. In his free time Abrie is an avid gamer and has competed at the top level in South Africa in the online multiplayer game Dota 2.
