Well, which commute would you prefer:

  • to drive your car in traffic for hour, focusing on the road the entire time
  • be chauffeured for an hour, with wifi and the leisure to eat, sleep, watch movies etc

If you chose the second, that means you would be more likely to sacrifice a longer commuter for say a cheaper place to live. Maybe you wouldn’t prefer it by much, perhaps 10 minutes, but that effect compounded over the entire population will create huge implications to how a city is shaped.
