Fire Walker

My body is an empty shell

But this crimson heart beats an intrinsic rhythm

Rib cage cracking like a glow stick

But emitting no light

My hands are blind

Tracing circles upon circles over mountains of braille

Icicle thoughts weigh me down

The knots in my stomach are doubled and tripled

So nothing can escape

If it wants to

But it never leaves

I’m a caged bird with Stockholm syndrome

I’m the last straw and I always come up short

My skin becomes a bed of coals

So I cannot hold myself together

Without embracing the third degree burn

That has become my life
