It was a really sunny day, on the 24th of September, 2019, clumsy as usual, as our agents were busy attending to customers with notable dedication.

Boom! The grave message popped up! “Your Whatsapp NumberHas Been Banned…”.

It was at this moment, we knew, we fucked up.

We had successfully utilised the Whatsapp platform for 2 years and counting, without issues. We believed our customers are comfortable with this medium of transaction and we weren’t ready to disrupt that.

But here we are, all staff members looking at one another with mouths widely opened, saliva dripping… eeewwww

The reality of depending on a third party application as a means of transacting with thousands of customers has dawned on us. We have been caught between Scylla and Charybdis.

An emergency meeting was called, of course, there’s need to come up with a fast solution even if it’s temporary.

At this time, the Cardtonic’s support phone number was blowing up with calls from several customers.

Set up our alternative phone number on Whatsapp, send out a bulk SMS to all our customers informing them of the new situation on ground, update our social media pages as well.

This was the temporary resolution we resorted to.

We sent a mail to Whatsapp support informing them of their misbehaviour, we placed the chances of getting a response at 60%, not to keep our hopes high.

It was at the stage we concluded that we could not continue to depend on a third party platform to carry out our businesses if we wanted the best for our customers.

Our developers were summoned and we gave them the requirements and a deadline.

Fast forward…………

January 10, 2020, the modern Cardtonic application for both web and mobile devices were born.

Now, we do not have to depend on Whatsapp as every transaction is carried out on our platform. How great does that sound?

It should also be mentioned that we later recovered the banned Whatsapp number, but the Whatsapp action made us wise, and we were happy to proceed with the transition and leave Whatsapp for good.

It is paramount to note how well we were able to handle the situation and come up with a quick and subsequently better resolution, which is needed as an organisation with great focus.

Our aim is to serve our customers the best way possible as we pride in their satisfaction and so far, we are having a good run with that.
