- Diets and the weight loss they cause, cause bodies to change physiologically (metabolism slows, leptin and ghrelin and peptides change to make your body able to live on less calories and make you MORE hungry, brain centers for willpower shrink but those that are pleasure centers get bigger) to make you REGAIN it. 95% of all weight loss patients REGAIN it and more and NOT because they “cheated” on their diets. So, the idea that fat people need to “just stop eating,” “exercise more,” or “just lose the weight” is demeaning and based on faulty ideas about bodies, genetics, and endocrinology. It is also based on the religious concept of gluttony which gives thin people a license to shame fat people.
