An ‘electronic resume’ is similar to hard-copy-resumes. The difference between the two is that the former is sent to the recruiter via e-mail or submitted through various job portals, and the latter through post. It is meant to be read by a computer program instead of a human being. There are computer programs that scan electronic resumes in large quantities, and churn-out the ones based on specific attributes. The reason for that is the information that you provide in a tabular format might not appear in the same manner in which you have created it. On mailing the resume, there is a possibility that computer program might read and format the information differently when opened on another computer. So it is advisable not to use tables or charts while writing an electronic resume.
Use reference links instead of adding bulk of information:
Candidates who typically write a ‘functional resume’ can use reference links of their blog or website that can be used as a marketing tool to highlight their achievements. Use of links provides direct access to your content for the recruiters. In addition to that, you can also provide a link to your profile on professional networks such as ‘Linked In’ to get a comprehensive overview of your profile.
