How to create a cohort invite code on CareerVillage.org

We want you to be able to watch your students’ progress on CareerVillage.org. To do that, you’re going to need to give them some way to let us know that they are your students. Cohort invite codes are the solution.

What’s a cohort? It’s a group of students. We aggregate student stats at the cohort level. You can make cohorts as large or as small as you want.

What’s an invite code? It’s a code that students can put into CareerVillage.org to let us know that they should be added into a certain cohort.

Step 1: Get an educator account

If you haven’t already, get an educator account at https://careervillage.org/signup/educator/

Note: If you’re doing this for the first time, the “onboarding” experience will try to help you create your first cohort and will show you the invite code. If that works out for you, you don’t need to do any of the other steps in this tutorial.

Step 2: Go to your dashboard

Make sure you’re logged into your educator account, and then click on the “dashboard” link in the navigation bar at the top of the page. If you don’t have any cohorts, you should be taken to a page that looks sort of like this:

Step 3: Create a cohort

Clicking on that big green button will open up this form:

After submitting that form, you should get a confirmation screen that looks sort of like this (except without the invite code grayed out):

Step 4: Give the invite code to your students

They can enter the code anytime. Either while signing up at https://careervillage.org/signup/student/

There is an “invite code” field in the student signup form

…or after they’ve already registered by clicking on their account dropdown menu at the top of the page and clicking on the “Join Cohort” link. It looks like this:

Some common questions we get about cohort invite codes:

Can a student join multiple cohorts? Yes, there is no limit to how many cohorts a student can join.

Can an educator create multiple cohorts? Yes, you can create as many cohorts as you want.

Can multiple educators become administrators of the same cohort? Yes, but only a CareerVillage.org admin can enable that. Send us an email at hello@careervillage.org with the invite code of the cohort and the email addresses of each of the educators you want to add (all of them must already have an educator account on CareerVillage.org before we can add them to the cohort).

Is this feature required in order for my students to access CareerVillage.org? No, this is 100% optional. However, if your students do not join a cohort that you create, then we won’t know that they’re your students, so we won’t be able to show you any information about them in your dashboard.
