The most popular type of fishing is deep sea, and it is possible to hire boats from many locations with which to take you out into deeper waters.

Unlike many other countries, fishing in Cuba is completely legal, so it is not uncommon to see people sitting in the beaches or the rocks surrounding them with their line in the water.

If you have a Cuba holiday rental on the northern coast, in the waters you will find plenty of tuna fish, sail fish and sword fish, making it the ideal spot for those that are new to the world of sea fishing.

You are likely to see a huge range of fishing techniques being used due to the variety of fish. Fly fishing, spinning fishing, half bottom fishing and deep-sea fishing are the most common.

Another popular alternative is hitting one of the countries many lakes for some freshwater fishing. Some of the best lakes include Leonero Lake, which hosts one of the best Trout fishing competitions in Latin America, Redonda Lake and Algodonal Lake.

If you are a confident fisher, then it is easy to hire a boat and take to the waters. Alternatively, you can use one of the many tour operators around the island.
