Blurry fireworks, three minute influencer Q&As, and piano recitals come to mind when I try to think of the “good” of live streams.

The bad? Watching suicides, rape, exploited children, hate speech, animal cruelty, domestic abuse, and every other type of disturbing behavior. It’s time to get rid of live streaming on social media platforms. No one is going to miss watching 30 second clips of concerts they don’t even care about in 144p.

Facebook rolled out live streaming to all of it’s users in 2016. I’m not a fan of the company, but it was actually seemingly a cool innovation at the time.

Live would let “you connect with the people who care most.” The people who cared the most could even receive notifications to let them know when your broadcast went live. “Just the right time” Facebook would say.

What do you do when “just the right time” happens to be tuning into someone preparing to hang themselves? Of course this is the extreme, but nevertheless, it’s still happening. There are an endless amount of reports of people either killing themselves or killing someone else on Facebook Live. I tried to dig up the total…
