The following day, after kicking Ryan Schiffilea out of the house and reporting the case to Title IX, the Executive Council called an emergency chapter meeting to inform everyone. At this point, most members of the house were aware what was happening.

On Wednesday night, the 20th, I attended an emergency chapter meeting to disucss Ryan Schiffiliea. The meeting was emotionally charged. At the time, we thought the issue was internal (we were working with title IX to investigate), so we were debating what to do. No one knew any specifics or could share any for legal reasons other than that he was charged for sexual assault, kicked out, and EC reported it to Title IX. We called for cancelling the semesters socials, electing a new EC, bringing in DEI consultants, and other similar recommendations.

Still, no one could share details. There were rumors that Ryan Schiffilea was already going to sue the chapter, for what reasons, defamation maybe, no one entirely knew. So no specifics were shared, the words sexual assault and rape were never mentioned.

XXXX had mentioned something where he was like, we talked with Title IX, they were super appreciative about this, and we want to keep it, and they were going to keep it internal. They’re like, they’re going to work with us to figure this out. And I remember he was like, I can’t say anything because I want to protect you guys because the more you guys know, the more liable you are.
