Is It Time to Put Travel on Hold and Make America A Better Place?
Sarika Bansal

If the main impetus for heading abroad is “to help,” then I do wish more Americans asked themselves: why do development over there but not in low income or disadvantaged zip codes in their own metro areas? And then, really sat with the answer and what it says about their values and what they think of American neighborhoods unlike their own.

Of course, though, there are reasons other than “to help,” that pull Americans into development and my overall sense is that probing individual motivations leads to a dark, murky place.
