How to Take Over An Existing Project

In most project management articles, they discuss starting projects from scratch. You seamlessly go from the initiating domain to the closing domain. However, that is not reality. There are many times when project managers are replaced in the middle of the project. I have had a situation where I am installed as a project manager during the executing domain and I am reading the project charter playing catch up.
