New PMP Exam Changes
There are new changes that the project management institute implemented starting January 11, 2016. Each domain has been affected, well everyone except for closing. I have attached the Project Management Institute link regarding the Project Management Professional (PMP) exam changes. Below are my summaries of changes by domain.
Initiating Domain
Three tasks have been added. They are tasks 2, 7 and 8. Task 2 identifies key deliverables based on business requirement in order to manage customer expectation and direct achievement of project goals. Task 7 conducts an analysis with relevant stakeholders to validate project alignment with organizational strategy and expected business value. Task 8 informs stakeholders of the improved project charter to ensure common understanding of the key deliverables and their roles of responsibility.
Planning Domain
There is only one task added which is task 13. Task 13 develops the stakeholder management plan by analyzing need, interest and potential impact in order to effectively manage stakeholder’s expectations and engagement in project decisions.
Executing Domain
Two tasks have been added. They are tasks 6 and 7. Task 6 manages the flow of information by following the communication plan in order to keep stakeholders engaged and informed. Task 7 maintains stakeholder relationships by following the stakeholder management plan in order to receive continued support and manage expectations.
Monitoring and Controlling
There are two tasks added to this domain. They are tasks 6 and 7. Task 6 captures, analyzes and manages lessons learned using lessons learned management techniques in order to enable continuous improvement. Task 7 monitors procurement activities according to the procurement plan in order to verify compliance and project objective.
Conclusion
Project management is not static, it is dynamic. The PMP certification exam has to change with it.
