Sexual Abuse Lawsuit Filed Against Hacienda La Puente Unified School District
Two children have come forward claiming former Los Altos High School chemistry teacher, David Park, molested them when the girls were just 15 years old. The Hacienda La Puente Unified School District is now being sued in connection with the case.
Child sexual assault attorney Stephen Estey of Estey & Bomberger, claims the school district failed in protecting these students from a predator. The lawsuit also claims there were signs of predatory grooming happening on behalf of David Park and the school did nothing to stop this behavior. According to Estey, “someone needs to hold the school district accountable” in this case and protect incidents like these from happening in the future.
Due to the student’s age, she is being referred to as Janet Roe. Roe claims that between 2010 and 2012, she was sexually assault by Park repeatedly and has since suffered serious mental, emotional, and nervous pain and suffering. The effects of sexual assault on a child can last a lifetime and have a strong effect on confidence, self-esteem, emotional well-being, and other factors.
David Park is currently serving three years in prison for the crimes committed. While sexual abuse in institutions is a nationwide issue, California is now ranking 3rd in the country for sexual abuse claims against teachers.
This is not the first time Hacienda La Puente Unified School District has been in the news for sexual assault. In 2012, four students were arrested on suspicion of assault for a sports hazing incident that including beating and sodomizing a member of the La Puente High School soccer team.
