NASA’s MAVEN discovers how Mars lost its atmosphere

Regarding terraforming Mars: “…atmospheric loss was gradual… If we decided to terraform Mars by artificially creating a dense atmosphere, it would survive for many millions of years, today, before we needed to replenish it.”

I’m curious how Mars can be terraformed when without magnetic protection there is so much radiation and hardly enough atmosphere to grow anything that would produce a breathable atmosphere. IF there is enough water, I guess you can obtain oxygen for the atmosphere and hydrogen for fuel to operate with.

I love the idea, just curious how creating an protective atmosphere would be accomplished.
