My Monthly Newsletters

December 2015 / January 2016

Last month I decided to start a monthly e-mail newsletter to keep people updated with what I’m listening to, what I’m reading, and what I’m doing with my music.

Well, I’ve been thinking I shouldn’t limit these to just to my e-mail contacts, so once a month, I will be publishing these short newsletters here — let’s start with both December 2015 and January 2016.

‘Doin’ the Thing’ — The Horace Silver Quintet (Live at the Village Gate)
Sonny Rollins — And the Contemporary Leaders

These two albums pretty much sum up the past 1–2 months of listening. I have been following Sonny Rollins’ music for the past 12 years and each and every new discovery is fresh and inspiring.

PRISM — Dave Holland
Pathways — Dave Holland Octet

I believe both are great albums, but I got more caught up in ‘Pathways’ than ‘PRISM’.

Managing Oneself (Peter F. Drucker)
Meaningful — The Story of Ideas The Fly
(Bernardette Jiwa)
Sam Walton — Made in America (Sam Walton)
Choose Yourself (James Altucher) — I cannot recommend this highly enough. If you’d like to get a feel of what the author is about, here is an interview on London Real.

Antarctica (Live at Petit Journal Montparnasse) feat. Yoann Godefroy (bass) and Clément Brajtman (drums)

Since 2016 will feature the recording of a second official album, below is an excerpt from the first one recorded in Paris in 2014. You can listen to and download the full album by clicking here.

The Sound Catalogues — ‘Lt. Onoda’ (Excerpt) (feat. Sandro Zerafa, Mátyás Szandai and Lionel Boccara)

Thanks to the Arts Council Malta (Malta Arts Fund), I will be recording my second album in Paris over the next year — it will feature Joe Debono, Oliver DeGabriele and Joseph Camilleri and is titled Explorations.

This week (December) featured two live performances in Malta with the NYC-based Gabrielle Stravelli Quartet (Jim Ridl on piano, Patrick O’Leary on bass and Jordan Young on drums). Here’s a photo.

I spent a few days in Frankfurt last week (November) where we got the chance to perform at St. Paul’s Cathedral as part of the European Cultural Days Festival by the ECB. This is a picture from the concert.

I have started a new Facebook page for saxophone tuition in Malta. Any support (share, like, talk about it etc.) would be greatly appreciated.

A new addition to the family.

I am looking for Maltese illustrators interested in proposing an album cover for the new project, titled Explorations, being recorded this year. If you are interested, or know someone who might be, contact me for further details. Feel free to spread the word.

Yesterday evening I published this post on titled You Are Your Brand — this is simply my take on personal branding. Let me know what your thoughts are and, if you like it, please share.

Some pictures from a fun Christmas Eve trio gig with Joe Debono on piano and Joseph Camilleri on drums.

That’s it for this month. Note that if you’d like to included in the mailing list to receive these directly in your inbox, feel free to contact me (see links below).
