2017, What a year!
A new year is arrived so it’s the time to recap the last year and to see how many things I accomplished. Let’s recap!
Speaking at Tech Conferences
The first was on February and It was at T3chfest, an awesome tech conference at University Carlos III of Madrid (Where I studied!) I give a talk/workshop about how to make a webapp with Firebase and React.
Last year was the first one that I to give international talks and I had to speak in English to the audience. At first I had a lot of doubts and scary, but it was one of the best things that I accomplished last year and I would like to repeat in this year
- T3chFest 2017 (Leganés, Madrid, Spain 🇪🇸)
- Campus Givers at Campus Madrid (Madrid, Spain 🇪🇸)
- GDG Åalborg (Åalborg, Denmark 🇩🇰)
- Pixelscamp 2017 (Lisbon, Portugal 🇵🇹)
- GDG Cloud Madrid (Madrid, Spain 🇪🇸)
- APIDaysMadrid (Madrid, Spain 🇪🇸)
- GDG CloudFest Madrid (Madrid, Spain 🇪🇸)
- GDG DevFest Galicia (Pontevedra, Spain 🇪🇸)
Workshops and Tech content
I give a total of 2 on-site workshops in Madrid. It was one of my personal OKRs last year. The first was on February and the last one in May. I would liked to offer more, but was too difficult find time to do it. Anyway it was a amazing experience and knowledge because I organized all the stuff (Find the place, make the curriculum, hire the catering for the breaks, manage the sales and promotions, …)
From the online side, I recorded two online paid courses about React Native and Redux, and a lot of material for free in Youtube. It was hard to find time to make it, recorded it, and so on, but worths.
Last year I travelled a lot! Giving talks or attending tech conferences. In almost all I travelled with my couple, Paola, and our little daughter (<2years) We bring her to all the tech events/summits where we go :)
- Google I/O 2017 (Mountain View, CA 🇺🇸)
- GDG Global Summit 2017 (San José, CA 🇺🇸)
- WTM Leads Summit 2017 (Prague, Czech Republic 🇨🇿)
- GDD Europe (Krakow, Poland 🇵🇱)
- GDG Leads Spain Summit (Salamanca, Spain 🇪🇸)
- GDD India (Bangalore, India 🇮🇳)
In October I started to work as Community Specialist with the Google Developer Relations Team for Spain, Portugal, Netherlands, Denmark and the Nordic Countries. My mission is helping to drive developers success and awareness of the Open Standards & Google Technologies through the direct support to Developer Communities. And very important, support diversity & inclusion initiatives to overcome the gender gap issue in the IT world. It is an amazing opportunity to learn, share, know awesome people and to help tech communities through my region.
At first It was an important change in my life because the last 5 years I have worked as freelance, choosing my tasks, schedule, time, etc… An now I work for a Big Company, but after a few weeks of adaptation I find myself very comfortable because it is not a repetitive job, every day there are different things to do and I love that! (Maybe because I’ve been out of my comfort zone for the last few years :P)
Go to 2018!
To the new year, I will continue to write in spanish in my blog but I will try to write more articles in Medium like this (in English, sorry for my grammar/style errors) in Medium to practice more the language and to share my thoughts, stuff and learnings with the rest of people non-spanish speaker.
Let’s start the new year!
