The Cameroonian Defender of the French International Team, Samuel Umtiti
On November 14th, 1993, at Yaounde, Cameroon, it was born one of the actual best defender on the soccer world, Samuel Yves Um Titi, the actual Centre-Back of FC Barcelona and of the French National Team.
With only 2 years-old, Umtiti moved with his family to Villeurbanne, France, but few months later, they moved to Lyon. Then, Samuel started his dream of football player when he joined the local football club Menival with only 5 years old. Then, when the French was 9 years-old, he joined the Lyon’s youth academy.
On 2011, Umtiti joined for first time the first team of Lyon, on a game of the Champions League play-off round. But, his professional debut was on a Coupe de France game against Lyon-Duchere, making an incredible full-time game. Then, only 6 days later, he made his debut in Ligue 1 against Montpellier. Then on the season 2012–13, he become one regular player on the Lyon’s squad.
On 2016, Umtiti joined one of the best soccer teams, FC Barcelona, and made his debut on the Supercopa de España, winning 3–0 against Sevilla, so it was the first trophy for the Cameroonian with Barcelona.
Although it is true that since his debut at Barcelona, he has been involved in many injuries and he has never been considered as one of the regular first 11 of the team, when it is up to him to play on the pitch, he do it the best way possible, and he is an excellent defender. That is the reason why an excellent club like Barcelona still count of him on the actuality.
On the French team, Umtiti made his debut on the quarter-finals of the European Championship against Iceland helping his team to advance for the next stage.
Is important to mention that Umtiti Helped the French National Team to win the FIFA World Cup on Russia in 2018, being a key player on the semi-finals against Belgium, game in which the only goal was scored by him heading a corner-kick.
So, Samuel Umtiti, a player that no everybody knows, in my personal opinion, is one of the best defenders of the actuality.
