The Polish Heroe, Robert Lewandowski

Born in Warsaw, Poland, on August 21st, 1988, Robert Lewandowski was raised in a traditional catholic household with an enormous interest in sports. As his both parents were involved in the sporting life, there was not a surprise that there was an interest in this world for Robert. As a result of this interest, Lewandowski’s father took him to the training session of a local club, Partyzant Leszno.

He started his youth football career at the age of 9 in Varsovia Warsaw youth system. Seven years later, he was enrolled in Delta Warsaw, team in which he suffered because he was there at the same time his father and idol, passed away.

Then, after a season at Legia Warsaw, he started his professional career on the season 2006/2007 at Znicz Pruszków. He stayed in this team for two consecutive seasons, helping the team win the third division league.

After the professionals’ first impression on his prior club, Lech Poznań asked for him, after being rejected by Sporting Gijon. In his first season he was the second player that scored more goals, and in the second and final season he was the top scorer.

On 2010, it was the time for Robert to jump to a high-level team and show the world that he could be one of the best, so he started at the German Club Borussia Dortmund. During his first season in Dortmund, he was awarded as the Polish best player of the year, he helped the team to win the Bundesliga tittle, being the third-highest top scorer on the league. On his second season, he help Dortmund reach the final of the UEFA Champions League, in which they were defeated by their rival, Bayern Munich. On the last two seasons of his career at Dortmund, the team won the German Super Cup.

In January 2014, he began to grow in an intensive way at his actual club, Bayern Munich. In the first season at Munich, Lewandowski helped his team reach the semifinals of the UEFA Champions League and win the bundesliga. At the beginning of his second season, he was known as the fastest player to score 5 goals in any major football league in Europe, after scoring this 5 goals against Wolfsburg, in only 8 minutes and 59 seconds. He finished top scorer of the league on that season. At the season 2016/17, he helped the team win the German Super Cup, the Bundesliga, and he scored 100 goals during that season. The season 2018/19 was a season completed with awards for him, as winning the DFB-Pokal, Bundesliga, and being considered the third-highest all time goal scorer at Bayern Munich. Finally, on the actual season, he has scored on all the games of the UEFA Champions League, helping his team reaching the final against Paris Saint German. He helped his team won all the local trophies, and because of his ability of score goals he was nicknamed by Thomas Muller, “Robert LewanGOALski”.

At his National team, there has not been awards and tittles, but Poland is growing as a National Team and we all hope that in a near future, and before his retirement, he will earn something with them.
