Welcome to my series of posts about my master’s thesis! In this series, I will share the findings and conclusions of my research on the dietary practices of young people in Hermosillo, Sonora. Before diving into the details, I would like to start by providing an introduction and the research context.

First and foremost, I would like to express my gratitude to all the individuals who contributed to the completion of this master’s thesis. Without their support and participation, this study would not have been possible. I am thankful to Dr. Catalina A. Denman Champion for being my thesis advisor and for her willingness, guidance, support, and advice. I would also like to thank Dr. Patricia Aranda Gallegos and Dr. María Isabel Ortega Vélez for accompanying, guiding, and sharing their insights with me. Additionally, I want to express my gratitude to the young participants of my research, who generously shared their experiences and perspectives.

I will provide a brief summary of the content of my research to give you a clear idea of what this series of posts will cover. My study focuses on understanding the dietary practices of young people in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico, and the influences that shape their food choices. I will analyze contextual dimensions such as employment, housing, education, and the selected school context to gain a comprehensive understanding of the food landscape among young individuals.

In terms of theoretical framework, I relied on “The Food Choice Process Model”, which provided a solid foundation for examining how young people make food decisions in their everyday lives. Furthermore, I will explore the specific nutritional needs of young individuals and how they relate to their dietary practices.

Regarding the methodology, I employed a combination of structured interviews and the Photovoice technique. The interviews allowed me to gather detailed information about the participants’ experiences and perspectives regarding food. On the other hand, Photovoice, as a powerful visual tool, provided participants with the opportunity to share their experiences through photographs and narratives.

Throughout this series of posts, I will share the research findings, focusing on the results obtained from Photovoice and interviews. I will delve into the individual experiences of the participants and highlight common factors that emerged from their narratives. Additionally, I will discuss the results in relation to the behavioral, biological, psychosocial, social, economic, political, normative, and cultural factors that influence the dietary practices of young individuals.

I am excited to share my research and hope that this series of posts will raise awareness and enhance understanding about the dietary practices of young people in Hermosillo. Furthermore, I aim to provide practical recommendations to promote healthy eating.

Stay tuned for the upcoming posts, where I will delve into each aspect of my research! If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to share them. Thank you for joining me on this journey of discovery and learning!
