This is tortured and torturous. Too long. Of course, you are puzzled and troubled by the decisions that you have to make. But your job is to break it down into the most simple slice of reasoningl for others’ benefit.
Here goes: you have decided that in the interest of winning, you will vote for somebody who is objectionable. You are doing so not because you believe that her vision is the best one for America, but because you believe she stands the best chance to defeat a vision that you find even more objectionable. The truth is that we are a strong country, and we will survive either one of these flawed candidates. Therefore, the strategic vote for a third party is defensible. I would go so far as to say it is the smartest choice. The best way to minimize the damage that a Clinton or Trump presidency might do, is to reduce the number of votes that either one of them might possibly get. It shouldn’t be about squelching their claim to a mandate, but in fact it is. At this point, no matter who is elected, we are looking at four more years of gridlock. Be honest, that outcome is unavoidable at this point. None of the people running is capable of forming a coalition, of bringing together a plurality of people, of pushing this country forward with as much polarization as currently prevails.
