The Clemson Ohio State story was very interesting and something I did not think about regarding social media. It never occurred to me that teams had to compete for recruits in social media in addition to their facilities, program quality, and scholarships. It is amazing that athletic departments are hiring several new members just for the purpose of managing social media and creating social content. Recruits are teenagers that spend most of their time on social media so reaching them on social media is the most effective way to get recruits to consume a program’s information. Since the way people consume information is changing, schools must adjust and go to the platforms that have the most consumers, especially with a target audience that is in the teenage age range.
