Weekly Spiritual Journaling Routine

Set your week off with aligned inspiration each Monday to lay the foundation for flow and ease. Below I’ll share my favourite spiritual resources for reading, listening, and learning. I recommend setting aside five minutes to an hour of self-care time anywhere from Sunday to Tuesday evening to peruse these third-eye-opening offerings.

Make a nice cup of healing herbal tea, light your favourite candle or incense, charge up your crystals, and set the intention to______ (receive, accept, let go, heal).

Open your journal to take notes on what resonates while you read or listen, and then for 10–15 minutes allow your higher self to reflect back on what it all means to you. Allow your thoughts to flow freely onto paper and you might be surprised about what insights come through for your week ahead.

1. Astrology Podcasts

On Sunday evenings, two great week-ahead astrology podcasts are released and both are less than 20 minutes. Just like there are 12 zodiac seasons each year, lasting about a month each, the moon, sun, planets, and stars are always doing something unique in the cosmos. The placement of these astro bodies can influence us much deeper than general monthly themes. The following two podcasts will dive into the cosmos and provide you with themes to be aware of and questions you can ponder. The intention is to flow with the greater energies of the universe and allow the vibrations above to assist in your goals, healing, and enjoyment of life.

Kait Fowlie — Magick Woman Radio (Spotify link)

This one is about 50/50 astrology and tarot card reading. I find her card readings inspiring and somehow, always exactly what I need to hear. The subtle reminders and suggestions about “What can you let go of this week?” or “Where are you acting from a sense of obligation rather than alignment?” will mean something different for everyone. If you listen and feel that these messages were made for you too, they were.

Chani Nicholas — Astrology of the Week Ahead (Spotify link)

No two astrologers are alike! Listening to Chani Nicholas is just as enjoyable and encouraging, but the two bring up different points. There’s always a bit of overlap in themes but from different points of view. I’ve also recently started using the Chani app for more personalized readings. Check it out if you’re also an astro-nerd.

Listening to both and taking a few notes on what resonates helps to solidify which energies for the week are meant for you to lean into and embrace.

My current peronal journal. I always have one for personal and one for professional note-taking.

2. Messages from Spirit for the Week Ahead — from The Conscious Her (YouTube link)

Kimberley Morrow, the founder of The Conscious Her, provides messages channelled from spirit every Monday. Sometimes the video (or Instagram or newsletter) doesn’t come through until Monday evening, FYI, so plan your weekly ritual accordingly. I was convinced of Kim’s authentic gifts after participating in one of her programs. Without getting into the spooky details, she helped me heal things she would have no way of knowing about. She is a gifted spiritual mentor and if her messages resonate, they are meant for you too!

Reflecting on what these messages mean to you, and jotting down some intentions for the week based on what you hear, is a helpful exercise to keep yourself on your own track.

3. MoonandCactus General Card Reading for the Week Ahead (Instagram link)

This one is the quickest and easiest. Each Monday, Christina, owner and artist at moonandcactus on Instagram, posts a spread of three face-down tarot or oracle cards, with a different crystal above each one. The instruction is to take a deep breath, ground yourself, and ask “How can I best work with the surrounding energies of this week?”

Don’t let yourself overthink this. You’re allowed to be drawn to more than one card, so choose and then read the various descriptions to decide what your takeaway is.

Let this activity light you up, not stress you out. There is no wrong answer. Participating in this little tidbit of spiritual fun each week can help you strengthen your intuitive connection to yourself. You’ll get better and more confident at choosing and trusting that choice.

The descriptions shared go deeper than copy and pasting the meaning from a guidebook. Christina infuses the reading with her own intuitive understanding of the energy of the week (or so it seems). It’s helpful to receive a card reading from people with experience when you’re new to the spiritual and intuitive path.

4. Personal Card Reading

If you don’t already own oracle, goddess, animal spirit, or tarot cards (or oh so many more options!) then you’re missing out! Taking a few grounding breaths, cleansing your space with smoke or sound vibrations, arranging your favourite crystals, and setting the tone for a mini weekly ritual is a beautiful way to speak love to yourself.

Simply ask, “What do I need to know right now?” or “What energy will best serve my highest good this week?” while you’re shuffling. Any cards that fly out are meant for you, so lay them down. There are various ways to pull cards and you can pull just one or a spread. You’ll find your groove! Take notes about what you initially feel or sense from looking at the card and then read the description from the accompanying guidebook. And enjoy the process!

My own first deck of cards was Goddess Guidance Oracle Cards by Doreen Virtue. I picked it up at a crystal store in my hometown and it has been a fun journey with these Goddesses ever since.

Please, if you don’t already have a deck, visit your local metaphysical store or bookstore to choose your first one (or buy direct from an artist). There are many fakes and plagiarized options on big box online stores that help nobody and won’t be infused with the best energy for your spiritual growth. Shop owners can help guide you toward which types of decks are good for beginners and point out options according to your values (nature-based, good descriptions, beautiful art, etc).

Make it personal

I hope these resources and ideas inspire you to make a weekly ritual. Choose as many or as few as you like, and be open to changing your routine week-by-week depending on your mood, energy, and free time. Know that all of the resources shared aim to help you tune into the energy of your own highest self and continue on the path of your highest good. Even if you don’t feel inspired to write each week, setting aside this time for yourself to have a ritual and be in solitude will nourish your soul and body.

Thanks for reading! If you want to share your own favourite resources, let me know in the comments as I’d love to check them out.
