CAROspace | Sailing

“Sailing” is the first song I wrote after moving to Oxford in January 2015. It talks about who I am and how whimsical life can be. A childhood of high mobility and cultural diversity (military brat) has deeply influenced how I view the world and want to be a part of it. My vagabond-esque lifestyle of traveling and searching for adventure continued after university with moving to Nashville, TN and then with a very sudden move to England. This song kind of came out of just having moved to a new place- always moving, not knowing anyone, wondering who I would meet, thinking about who I left behind. Most people that I form relationships with are not like me; they are not as willing to pick up and leave, to embrace change. Where I find comfort in the ever-changing waters, “sailing” around the world, some close to me find comfort only in the stability of familiar and known. I want the unknown.
Shout out to Tom “Sail Before Sunset” Peranteau, an actual sailor, who watched my homemade video of the song because he was “looking through sailing videos,” found mine and decided he liked it. Although, sadly, my sailing experience lies only in the metaphorical, Tom continues to watch succeeding videos and encourages me in my music! We would have never met if I hadn’t posted that song (or written it, for that matter). I love this story because it reminds me of not only of why I write, but the importance of sharing it with others. Music to me is an ultimate way to build connections, community, and appreciation for each person’s story, passions, and talents. Now let’s go sailing.
I am recording “Sailing” in The Handle Bar space tomorrow night. I’ll post a picture of the shoot and let you know when the video will be posted and how you can listen to the track. #carospace_TheHandleBar
Thanks for letting me share my music with you,
