I’ve Lived Long Enough

I’ve lived long enough to know

that life isn’t perfect

people are unreasonable

and human love is flawed

I’ve lived long enough to know

that those who lie usually advance

and those who cheat, win

I’ve lived long enough to know

that success breeds envy

and that people will usually do awful things

for the sake of their own miserable gains

I’ve lived long enough to know

that suffering is an ineradicable part of life

and that tears are whispers of the brave soul

when the pain is too great to bear

I’ve lived long enough to know

that when life gests harsh

friends are always near

and God’s love is omnipresent

I’ve lived long enough to know

that those who persist often succeed

and those who dare, accomplish great things

I’ve lived long enough to know

that a clear conscience

is one’s best treasure

and a pure heart

is one’s best guide

I’ve lived long enough to know

the power of a smile

and the strength of a caring hand

I’ve lived long enough to know

to expect nothing from life

but rather be ready for what life expects from me
