Why I Identify as Blind When I Can (Kinda) See
Lisa Ferris

Thanks. That was so very informative. And I kept making parallels to deafness. Am I deaf or do I have a hearing loss? “Hard of hearing” isn’t “in” any more. “You can hear when you want to.” No, I can usually hear, but I often cannot understand what I hear. It depends on the pitch, speed, accent, distance. “Aren’t you wearing your hearing aids?” Yes, I am. The hearing aids enable me to hear you but they don’t provide clarity. I know your glasses give you 20/20 vision but my hearing aids don’t give me perfect hearing. Etc.
