Can we simplify medicare?
It’s election time! As usual, with all of potential reforms that are being promised by the Democratic and Republican nominees to the already complicated Medicare system, we are left to wonder if they can actually do anything to simply it.
Yes, it is vital. Yes, reforms are needed. But what would be even more welcome alongside the reforms is the simplification of choosing Medicare health plans. It could be as simple as educating and creating awareness about the plans and helping people choose the right plan for them. Right now, choosing a Medicare plan is as complex as selecting and applying for a university.
It is also vital that we promote Medicare coverage for all senior citizens, especially when the cost of prescription drugs is so astoundingly high. Certain Medicare plans offer coverage for prescription drugs, such as a Part D. It is important that these choices are simplified and presented in a way that makes it easy for anyone to compare, select and buy a Medicare health plan that fits their healthcare needs.
