Mediumship has been around for thousands of years. It has a long and checkered history, rising and waning as often as the tides. Throughout the past, those in the ruling classes have used seers, witches, soothsayers, and prophets' visions to control the masses. Conversely, they blamed and punished the gifted messengers when it suited those in power.

Even in the bible, King Saul requested The Witch of Endor to summon the spirit of the prophet Samuel. And here you thought Endor was a moon where the Empire Strikes Back!

Kings, queens, and other leaders have consulted mediums and psychics throughout the ages. They used them to pick auspicious dates, create strategies, and even determine the gender of the ever-important heir. Queen Elizabeth 1, Catherine de Medici, and Queen Victoria were all said to have mediums, seers, and mystics on staff.

Mediumship’s image took a beating during the nineteenth century’s Spiritualism craze. This popular religious movement caused lines to be blurred between real communication and the Carny circuit. While the science community took a serious interest, credibility waned with the exposure of stage tricks. Mediumship fell out of popularity until the late twentieth century when a new group of television mediums took center stage.
