Creating Pearlescent And Iridescent Effects Using Metallic Color Pigments
Every metallic floor coating differs from each other unlike is the case with solid-color pigment or chips. Floors coated with these feature a glossy and deep-looking floor appearance and there are a variety of colors and visual effects.
Some of the coatings feature a beautiful three-dimensional appearance that gives the illusion of craters, ripples, and swirling rivers of metallic-looking plasma.
For that reason, you will get a good solution whether you are looking for a solution for retail establishments, nightclubs, automotive showrooms, residential interiors or garage floors.
There are many reasons you might be interested in buying metallic color pigments just the same way with buying garage epoxy floor coating material.
For metallic color pigments, the base is a clear epoxy or polyaspartic base and the metallic powder used will color the translucent floors. Dispersing metallic mica pigments in a variety of binders will also create seamless floors.
They are applied through a number of ways, the most effective being to pour lines out of a bucket or using a watering pot for more control of the pour and to avoid anything from going to waste.
You then use a squeegee trowel to spread the coating once it is on the floor. If using two colors, it is advisable to pour each color in an opposite direction. Do not pour one color on top of another.
To achieve a more extreme, exotic look, squeegee or roll out a single color and then apply another one the “dipping and shaking” way with a brush, a stir stick, etc.
A roller is then used once these colors are down, which makes sure you move the colors around or rather you can just leave it alone.
Another way to apply is through a one-stroke backroll which gives an acid stain look. Avoid blending the colors too much and going from multiple colors to just one color created from over rolling or squeegee.
Therefore ensure to avoid over rolling your backroll. Solvents such as MEK (methyl ethyl ketone), xylene, denatured alcohol and isopropyl alcohol can be applied when your product gets tacky. You can play around with different types of solvents in order to end with different effects and looks.
Using a spray bottle to apply the solvent in order to achieve the crater ripple effects will yield craters of the same size. Instead, you can pour the solvent into an open 1-gallon bucket and then use hands to scoop it out and flick it onto the floor. However, ensure you don’t over flood the floor as you go crazy with the solvents because that makes you lose your effects.
Durability: Metallic color pigments are also exceptionally durable given the very high solids count and the high-performance epoxy or polyurethane resin. They add durability because they are resistant to oil, salt, chemicals, acids, water and wear as any other high-performance epoxy floors and garage epoxy floor coating.
Easy maintenance: These types of floor coating solutions are also easy to maintain and will reflect an outstanding amount of light because of the glossy nature of the surface. However, they can be a little slippery when wet.
