My Ten Most Popular Poems on Medium

And a few reflections

I’ve been writing on medium for a little over a year now. I’ve met lots of great people, grown as a writer and put together a decent portfolio of work. So all in all, I’d say it’s been a very positive experience!

The downsides? I haven’t made big bucks or amassed a huge following. There are a zillion other articles out there where you can find out how other writers do this. In fact I altogether missed my goal of reaching 1000 followers in my first year (other mums will understand why), but I stuck with it and my follower count is now 1K+ and growing in small increments. Plus, I get paid a bit each month for my work. Go me!

I treat Medium like a writer’s circle, or even a writing bootcamp. It’s a place where I can write and publish anything I want, find an audience, and earn a few dollars. For someone who used to hide all her writing in notebooks stuffed at the back of drawers, this is definitely a step forwards.

Thanks to every single person who has read and followed my work here, I’m honing my craft and building my confidence. My dream is to write a book and have it published, and every piece I write here is a step closer to that goal.

Most of all, though, I get to create things and share them with the world. For this, I’m truly grateful.
