Gullible is written on the ceiling…
and all over the internet too.
I’d love to say that in the 3rd grade I never fell for that incredibly un-clever prank where someone would tell you gullible was written on the ceiling, but that would be a lie. It would be a humongous lie, actually, since I fell for that joke and many similar lies more times than I should admit to.
But, at the end of the day, I think I’m better off for my sad 3rd grade naivety because I learned early on that sometimes being skeptical can have its perks. I only wish that more people had come to this realization, before hopping online and spreading stories from satirical news sites like The Onion and The Daily Currant. An article on Mashable pointed out that thousands of people thought that someone had actually been killed over the Olympic ring mishap in Sochi all because of an article on The Daily Currant.
So to all the innocent, gullible souls out there: please double check your sources when you hear an outrageous news story. Heck, take the 45 seconds to read the “About” section of the website to find out if it’s satirical. Do it so the rest of us can go on enjoying the humor in the stories, okay?
