For those who are not up to date with the popular memes on social media, you are missing out on one of the funniest memes posted on Instagram.
So many Instagram users have been creating their own funny memes using a the famous professional basketball player of all time, Michael Jordan who is also known as “the GOAT.”
People have been cutting out the face of Michael Jordan crying during his Basketball Hall of Fame induction speech in 2009 and using it as a meme. The photo below is the original photo of him. What’s funny is that the more you keep looking at different memes of MJ, the original might start looking like a photoshopped one as well.

The first time I saw this post on Instagram, I could not help myself but laugh so hard at work because I can see myself hating my life at work if this happened to me.
On November 7th, 2014, the first meme using his face was by a memer of The Coli Forums, At30wecashout. The user posted an example featuring various Michael Jordan crying examples and the trend made its way through the forum by more users in blogs, and more social media apps.
It even on made its way onto TMZ, where they reported that Michael Jordan is aware of the popularity of the meme and he was okay with it. As long as it doesn’t get used for commercial interests. Tweets were also made out by Michael Jordan’s sons who tweeted their reaction to this trend of their father (shown below).
Based on Google’s statistics of this meme’s popularity over time, it seems that the first signs of Crying Michael Jordan meme was spotted in March 2015. In April 2016, this was the month where the meme got its popularity, reaching at 100 of its highest peak in the United States.
The Crying Michael Jordan meme is still being used everywhere, especially on Instagram and Twitter and I don’t think it is going to end for a while until a new photo of Michael Jordan is out.
