Road to Canada: Part 3

I can’t believe we’re only a few weeks away to Canada! It’s been harder to keep everyone updated then I thought.

Nick continues to train hard for the big tournament. He plays dodgeball several times a week. When he’s not doing that he’s analyzing footage of other teams, staying involved in the Dodgeball community (check out his latest blog here), or studying ways to keep his throwing arm in the best shape.

Amazingly we have raised enough in the go fund me campaign to cover our flights. Thank you to our fabulous donors! We also found an incredible deal on air bnb so we can house the family not too far away from the gym and the rest of team USA. It’s important to be close because after the games are done, Nick will need to spend time with the team going over game footage to prep for the next round of games. Didn’t realize it was so serious did you?

So what’s left? Well- we’re Californian so the girls don’t have any “east coast cold weather clothes.” I’ll spend the next few weeks finding the best deals. I’ll scour the internet and out local thrift stores until I find what we need.

We still need to book a car, and to figure out if we will be able to take the girls to do anything fun while we are there. We’ll at least drive past Niagara Falls, but not sure yet if we’ll be able to do any of the attractions in the area. Because we’ll be staying in an apartment most of our meals will be at home, so that will save quite a bit of money.

To help save money for the big trip (and to continue paying off our other debts) we are doing a “Financial Diet” this month. During a financial diet you cut all unnecessary spending. No eating out, no buying things that aren’t essentials, etc. To be fair, we don’t always do the best- but it really serves to get us thinking about what we are spending on and to pause us long enough to make better choices. We’ve been doing these diets for several years now. In fact most of my first blogs were about it (here).

We’ve only got about 5 weeks to take off, so I’ll endeavor (I love that word) at getting better about keeping you all posted with all the news.
