Road to Canada: The Final Chapter
We Made It!
The flight was pretty smooth, but it was a red eye so we arrived in Buffalo at about 630am on Tuesday and we didn’t stop until we got back home.
The Markham Pan Am Center was gorgeous! The center is only 2 years old and was built for the Pam Am games. As a professional event planner I can’t say enough good things about the committee that put together the event. Everything was top notch and professional. Signage, banners, clearly marked courts. All the details were there and all other hosting countries will have a tough act to follow.
The girls got to spend some time exploring the Toronto area, some time watching their Dad play, and some time with friends (oh, and time doing school work).
So did team USA come home with the GOLD? No. Unfortunately our Men’s team did not medal. They went into semi-finals as the second seed and played against Canada to determine who would go to the Gold medal round and who would go to the Bronze medal match. The game was fiercely played and really close. But in the end team USA lost in sudden death overtime and Canada went on to play Malaysia in the Gold Medal match. Team USA faced Australia the next day in the bronze medal match and once again the games were fiercely played, really close, and ended in sudden death over time. I literally couldn’t watch the last three games I was so stressed out. They were true nail biters. But ultimately team USA lost to Australia who took home the bronze. The women’s team however brought home the Bronze medal after a win against Canada.
The final standings were:
Men’s division- Gold: Malaysia, Silver: Canada, Bronze: Australia, MVP: USA team member, and the Sportsmanship award went to a member of team Hong Kong.
Women’s division: Gold: Malaysia, Silver: Australia, Bronze: USA, MVP: Australia team member, and the Sportsman award went to a member of team Italy.
I love that the sportsmanship award is voted on, presented, and just as important as the MVP. It says a lot about the sport.
Meanwhile the girls got to go to the Toronto Zoo and see the Pandas (their favorite). And Ripley’s Aquarium where the could climb in and through some of the exhibits.
Thank you to all of you that supported us and helped us get there! We so appreciate it.
